We have a few weeks then Nicky leaves on his mission. I will likely continue to write these posts until he’s gone. I’m trying to enjoy as much time with him as I can!
Here are our Happy It Happened moments from this past week:
Last Sunday night we stayed at a hotel in Layton spontaneously and went to the Syracuse temple open house early Monday morning.
It was great timing because Nicky will go through the temple to receive his endowment next week.
In the afternoon we went to see Lilo & Stitch.
Then that night we stopped by the cemetery for Memorial Day and for Nicky to see a few graves before he leaves.
Tuesday was graduation.
On Wednesday Eva and Zoe still had school, so I wanted to take Nicky and Daisy to do something fun. I ended up taking them to the zoo where they relived their childhoods, and we had a blast!
I was shocked because it wasn’t crowded, and the animals were very active. I was expecting loads of busses on field trips, but there wasn’t a single school group to be seen!
That night, Zoe broke her arm. It’s our first broken bone, if you can believe that! (Don’t worry, we’ve had lots of other problems to make up for it ).
Trampoline (to answer your question). We see the orthopedic specialist later this week for a hard cast and further assessment.
Thursday was officially the last day of school. We went to the elementary school to watch the “sixth grade clap out.” At our school, the kids begin kindergarten with a “clap in.” The student body line the halls and cheer for the kindergartners as they arrive at school on their first day. Then, when they are leaving elementary school to go to junior high, they are clapped out. Since Nicky and Daisy didn’t have school, they were able to come see Zoe at the clap out. Now I only have one kid in elementary school.
On Friday, all the girls had plans in the evening, so it was just Scotty, Nicky, and me. It’s rare for Nicky to not have plans, but he was leaving for Disney World with friends later that night, so most of his social circle was tied up with getting ready which meant we had him all to ourselves for a bit! We ended up going to dinner at a Chinese restaurant that Nicky pointed out could close before he gets back from his mission (the owner is old and tired and frankly, deserves to retire. I’ve been eating at his restaurant for 25 years!)
After dinner, we went and got all of Nicky’s clothing for the temple. It’s coming up before we know it!
That night we drove Nicky and three friends to the airport (in addition to the other 22 kids that went on the trip).
Nicky is in Florida for a week and then he turns around and leaves on another week-long trip with friends. He’ll be gone for half of the last month leading to his mission. I guess he’s just trying to get us used to that empty bedroom.
