Graduated!

I’ve wanted to post a little more about Nicky’s graduation for the sake of memory and documentation of life’s big events, but I don’t really know what to say about it.

We went to a big arena. It was long and boring (like graduations are).

That’s it, I guess.

People keep asking me how I’m doing, and honestly, by the time graduation rolled around, I was more than ready for it. Not a tear to shed over Nicky being done with high school! I’m a little more emotional that he will be leaving on a mission, but even then, I’m ready for it.

It’s time for this boy to enter the next phase of life. I think I’d be more emotional if he were going away for college. I feel like that’s scarier. Instead, he’s going to a little island where he will have a 10:00 curfew every night, no access to instagram, a weekly phone call to his mom and dad, and his friends can’t track his location anymore. It’s everything I could ask for!

Here are a few photos from graduation:

A little backstory: on opening night of The Music Man, we discovered a pretty big error in the programs (a few pages were left out). They all had to be reprinted, so there were several boxes of them that weren’t able to be used.

For months the programs have been resurfacing as pranks. Nicky’s Jeep has been covered in them at least a dozen times. They’ve been left on porches disguised as Christmas gifts. They’ve been crafted into novelty items, like kites. Twice last week we came home and found our yard covered in them.

So I can’t say we were surprised when Nicky opened his Diploma of Merit and found this:

After the ceremony, we had dinner at my mom’s house - catered by Nicky and Scotty’s favorite Mexican restaurant.

All of Nicky’s grandparents were able to come:

It ended up being a good (and long and exhausting) day.
